The Cincinnati Bengals have officially moved on from wide receiver Jermaine Burton, bringing an abrupt end to a tenure that once carried plenty of promise. The former third-round pick was waived after being suspended by the team, closing the door on what many hoped would be a successful partnership.
When the Bengals drafted Burton in 2024, fans believed they had found another explosive weapon to complement star receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. His college career at Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs showcased elite speed and big-play ability, making him one of the most intriguing young receivers on the roster.
Unfortunately, the on-field production never matched the potential. Burton finished his Bengals career with just four receptions for 107 yards and struggled to earn a consistent role in the offense. Off-field issues and disciplinary concerns repeatedly overshadowed his talent, eventually leading to his suspension and release.
For Bengals fans, this is a disappointing outcome. The talent was undeniable, but availability, reliability, and trust are just as important as athletic ability in the NFL. The organization gave Burton opportunities to establish himself, yet the relationship ultimately became unsustainable.
Now, Cincinnati turns its attention to the future. With Chase and Higgins still leading the receiving corps, the Bengals will look elsewhere for depth and development at wide receiver. Meanwhile, Burton will hope another franchise offers him a second chance to revive a career that once appeared full of potential.
Losing Burton may not significantly impact the Bengals’ offensive production, but it serves as another reminder that talent alone is never enough. The NFL rewards players who can combine ability, discipline, and consistency—and unfortunately, Burton’s time in Cincinnati never reached that point.
