Braves’ Rebuild Begins With Leadership: Why Matt Olson Is Central to the Braves’ 2026 Plans

In an effort to quickly recover and get back into playoff contention, the Atlanta Braves are rebuilding their roster for the 2026 campaign. Matt Olson is one of the most dependable players that new manager Walt Weiss, who took over for Brian Snitker, can immediately insert into the starting lineup.

After finishing his fourth season with Atlanta, the 31-year-old first baseman had yet another outstanding season. For the fourth year in a row, Olson participated in 162 games.

He continues to set the bar for defensive excellence at first base despite his tremendous workload. Olson led all first basemen in Fielding Run Value with 8, which earned him a Gold Glove Award in 2025, according to Statcast’s Baseball Savant.

With a batting average of.272, an on-base percentage of.366, an OPS of.850, 29 home runs, and 95 RBIs, Olson continued to be a reliable force at the plate. In addition, he amassed the most doubles in the National League with 41.

Olson has remained involved in his community, encouraging others around him as he approaches the offseason. One of the most important aspects of his off-field legacy is his work with the nonprofit ReClif Community.

Olson has been friends with ReClif’s founder, Reece Blankenship, for a long time. Olson was motivated to become involved by Blankenship’s ambition to provide possibilities for people with autism. Together, they have created programs that support families and go beyond raising awareness.

The “Matt Pack” at Truist Park, a sensory-friendly seating area that enables kids and families with autism to watch Braves games in a friendly setting, is one of the most obvious examples.

In a joint Instagram post with ReClif Community on Tuesday, he declared that he has decided to double every dollar contributed to the cause.

“Giving Tuesday is here, and Reece’s vision is setting the standard. Donate now to help our ongoing efforts to assist families affected by autism. The caption stated, “Every dollar you give—up to $35,000—is doubled thanks to a generous matching donation.” Additionally, Olson posted a link for supporters to make a donation on his Instagram story.

Olson’s dedication demonstrates that his influence goes much beyond the diamond. He makes sure that ReClif’s objective keeps expanding by giving his resources and platform.

Olson is one of the Braves’ most important leaders going into 2026 because of his consistent presence on the field and his commitment off it.
